In Which I Return to the Scene of the Crime

First of all, let me say that I have been a good little girl. I haven't been to the thrift store since April or May. In fact, my favorite thrift store moved into a larger building over the summer, and this week was the first time I had been there to check it out.

And wow, what a difference! Where before it had been housed in the basement of a very small church, it is now in a large, bright and airy room with lots of space to show off all the great things for sale.

As you walk in the door, there is a large table filled with all the housewares that I love -- dishes and trays and lamps and candlesticks -- and everything is styled beautifully. In fact, it almost looks like an upscale home decor shop. But with really good prices. ;)

So what did I get? I got this beautiful Wedgwood covered casserole dish, for $8. Yes, as you have probably guessed, I'm a sucker for covered dishes. And this was just the perfect color to go in my kitchen.

So now I have to make up for lost time at the thrift store, right? I have my eye on a small tea set and a Victorian chair... ;)

  4. Beautiful dish, Mary. I love hunting around for hidden treasures in thrift shops. Recently bought 10 "Country Days" dinner plates ($6 each) for our Thanksgiving table. They were a treasure I couldn't pass up.

  5. Oh Mary, that is gorgeous. I LOVE covered dishes. The colours are beautiful and look perfect where it is placed. I think I would be making frequent visits there. I just purchased a sweet little tea-pot for .25 at our local thrift shop. Have a lovely weekend, Mary. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x4

  9. Just give in to it, Mary. If your cupboards become overrun, you can sell the extra pieces on Ebay. ☺

Sounds like the perfect set-up for the new thrift store.

  11. I went to a thrift shop yesterday too. It's not something I have time for very often, and I enjoyed every moment, because like the one that you visited, this shop is set up in 'stories' and I had to take my time to savour every little vignette. I came away with a lovely cushion cover and a set of lobster salt and pepper shakers - kitsch for my sister's cottage.

  12. Well, you had to go. They were probably worried about you since it had been so long.

And, just look at this beautiful dish. It was a well-deserved reward.

You definitely have lost time to recover.

  15. I love the 'new' covered dish (end envy such a place as your thrift shop for such BARGAINS) but the green and gold banded one in your header is still my favotite.

I have always lived in tiny spaces, so I limit myself to 'smalls' - sterling teaspoons, some treenware and of course china, esp transferware. As I've gotten older, I've also gotten better about purging things that no longer make my heart sing.

  17. The dish looks pretty on your counter and would be terrific on a Thanksgiving table, Mary. (We've already had Thanksgiving in Canada.)

  18. It is lovely, Mary! The Thrift stores here in Southampton are so pricey, I don't know how they stay open. One just closed as they couldn't make the rent payments, and I know why. They were so overpriced!
    Have a good week!
