Mosaic Monday: Winter Solstice

I'm always drawn to the emptiness, the sadness and the stark beauty of these scenes, although I have to say that a lovely blue sky and some warm weather would not come remiss right about now.  ;)

We are digging out from under around five inches of snow, topped with some ice today.  So, by all means, let's celebrate the winter solstice...  :)

(Some iPhone and some dslr photos today, all from last winter.)

Mosaic Monday: Not Ready for Christmas

OK, so I'm not ready for Christmas.  Every year, I find myself still in the throes of fall when everyone else in blogland is showing their holiday decorations.  Frankly, I'm hoping that a stroll around all your posts will get me in the mood.  Because I'm just not feeling it this year...

Bah, humbug.

So here are a few of the photos I've been working on lately, in between the mad dash to make up cards and gifts for my portrait clients.  Fog, old books, and little pieces of nature -- three of my favorite things.  :)

Mosaic Monday: Iphoneography

When I was casting around for a subject for today's Mosaic Monday, I came across all the iPhone photos that I had saved on my computer's hard drive when I thought that my camera phone was no longer working.  I thought I might share a few of them here today.

They say that the best camera a photographer can have is the one she has with her.  More often than not, that will be the camera on your phone.  My husband and I try to walk most mornings before he leaves for work, and I love to capture my favorite subjects -- sunrise or fog -- with my iPhone.  Here are a few from earlier in the year.

Editing photos on your phone is easy and fun.  There are a few photo apps that I find myself coming back to again and again -- Snapseed,  Camera+ and VSCOcam are some of my absolute favorites.  If you enjoy working with textures, check out DistressedFX and Mextures.  For typography fans, Typic+ is a fabulous app, as well as Over.

If you'd like to check out my iphoneography, follow me on Instagram or check out my VSCO grid.  If you are on Instagram, I'd love to follow you -- just leave your IG name in the comments.  :)

Mosaic Monday: A Styled Photo Shoot

I'm so sorry to be late posting here today.  We took my daughter out to lunch for her birthday, and I totally forgot about Mosaic Monday!

Here are a few images from the Zoe Berkovic workshop I took last week.  We did two styled photo sessions with child models.  Don't you just love the outfits here?  I'm loving all the touches of red and the tartan here.  And we had such great fun shooting on a real school bus -- three photographers, one photographer/teacher, and four kids -- throwing paper airplanes, blowing bubblegum, and jumping on the seats!

Mosaic Monday: More from Ham House

I visited Ham House in Richmond, England, with my daughter back in May.  I'm not sure if I ever shared all the photos I took there.  I apologize if some of these are repeats, but looking back over them yesterday, I was excited all over again for all the beautiful things we saw there.

The indoor photos shown here are from the kitchen, which was in the basement of this beautiful Elizabethan home.  The outdoor photos show just a little of the wonderful garden.

I would love to visit again some day.  My blogging friend, Sharon Collins, lives nearby and will be working at Ham House as a volunteer administrator soon.  Lucky her!  Click on the link to visit her photoblog, which is wonderful!

*****

I want to take a moment to apologize to you all for not leaving many comments on your beautiful posts.  I find that a lot of typing and editing makes my right hand ache terribly, and I need to save my aches and pains for my work.  But please know that I appreciate each and every one of you, and all the beauty that you share here every week!  xo

Please note: there will be no Mosaic Monday next weekend.  I will be attending a photography workshop.  See you back here on November 24th.

Mosaic Monday: Sunset at Natirar

I took a ride over to Natirar the other night to check out the light for a future portrait session.  It was about an hour before sunset, and the light was glorious.  We have had some gorgeous autumn colors this year, too.  I try to treasure these beautiful days, because I know that there are dark and cold days ahead.  Can you tell that winter is not my favorite season?  ;)

October in Orange

I'm thrilled to host the very talented members of the Facebook group Colors of 2013 with Eva Ricci Studio today.   We have been working on a different color prompt each month, and October's color was orange.  I'm fascinated by all the different takes on the color, from brash and bright to soft and shimmering...

See you on Sunday afternoon for our regularly scheduled Mosaic Monday.
